Eczema: everyday skin care

For eczema, the base is a dermatology plan, short warm bathing and a fragrance-free cream or ointment on damp skin.

With eczema, daily skin care supports the treatment your dermatologist recommends. Gentle washing and regular application of cream or ointment help skin retain moisture.

What the AAD advises

The AAD recommends a fragrance-free cream or ointment, because lotions often give less protection. Keep baths or showers to 5 to 10 minutes in warm, not hot, water. Right after, while skin is still damp, apply moisturizer or ointment.

Test a new product on a small area for 7 to 10 days before using it on your face. If symptoms worsen, consult your dermatologist.
