What makes it different

Argan oil is one of the most counterfeited natural cosmetic oils in the world. The "argan oil" sold in many BiH drugstores is industrial sunflower or grape seed oil with a few drops of argan added for marketing purposes. Real argan oil has specific properties:

  • Cold-pressed, not heat-extracted. Heat destroys vitamin E and the unsaponifiable fatty acids that give argan its anti-aging effect.
  • From the Souss-Massa region. The argan tree grows nowhere else. Oils labeled "argan" from outside this region are not the real thing.
  • 30 to 40 kg of dried fruit per liter. Eight hours of hand-work for one liter. That's why real argan oil costs what it does.
  • Slightly nutty scent, golden color. A clear, water-thin oil with no scent is suspicious.

How to use it

Face

Two to three drops on clean, slightly damp skin in the evening, after AFOULKI cream or as a single layer for combination skin. Massage in upward strokes. The oil absorbs cleanly without a sticky finish.

Hair

One to two drops on the ends after washing, towel-dried hair. Smooths frizz, restores shine. For dry, color-treated, or chemically processed hair, apply to the lengths once a week as an overnight treatment.

Body

Apply to dry skin after a shower. Useful for elbows, knees, heels, and any area prone to dehydration. Pregnant women often use it on the abdomen and breasts to support skin elasticity.

Why argan from Souss-Massa

The cooperatives are women-led and have been operating since the 1990s. The work, from cracking the argan nut to roasting (for culinary oil) or cold-pressing (for cosmetic oil), is done by hand. UNESCO recognized this know-how in 2014 because it represents a form of botanical knowledge that was never industrialized.

AZOURANE works directly with the cooperatives. There is no middleman. The oil arrives in Sarajevo with a clean provenance, packaged in dark glass to protect it from light degradation.
